Land Resumption of SAA Shelter

About the SAA Big Move

When the SAA shelter in Pak Sha Tsuen, Yuen Long, was included in a redevelopment plan, we began preparing for the return of the site several years ago. We searched extensively for suitable land, hoping to establish a permanent home where the animals in our care could live with stability and security.

While securing a permanent site proved difficult, and finding a location capable of accommodating all our animals was especially challenging, we were fortunate in mid-2023 to identify a suitable vacant government site. Since then, we have been working closely with relevant government departments to apply for approval to develop a new shelter at this location.

Saying Goodbye to Our Home of 28 Years

SAA has been located in Pak Sha Village since our establishment in 1997. We rebuilt an abandoned pig farm to become what is now the SAA animal shelter.
In 2023, the SAA shelter site was formally included in the Yuen Long South Development Plan, and we were informed that the land must be returned by May 2025. As a result, we urgently need to secure a new location for the animals in our care.
While saying goodbye is never easy, we began preparing for this transition several years ago. We have been actively searching for suitable land to establish a stable, long-term home for our animals. Although a permanent site has not yet been realised and identifying a location capable of accommodating all our animals has been extremely challenging, we were fortunate in mid-2023 to identify a suitable vacant government site. Since then, we have been working closely with relevant government departments to seek approval to develop a new shelter at this location.
As the lease for the new site had not yet been granted, we had no choice but to apply to the Lands Department for a further extension to remain at the current site, which was fortunately approved on a temporary basis. In the meantime, we will do everything we can to ensure the relocation proceeds smoothly.

The Road We’ve Walked

Support Us
At this stage, we are working closely with government departments to secure a new site that can accommodate all the animals in our care. We also hope the new site will allow us to host more activities related to animal welfare, helping the public build greater understanding and awareness.
At the same time, we remain committed to our no-kill, no-abandonment principle. Our goal is to provide abandoned animals with better living conditions and a life filled with care and dignity. From applying for land, to designing and building the new shelter, and eventually relocating, we will do everything we can to ensure that every animal is supported and able to adapt smoothly to the transition.

Walking Together with Partners

Relocating and building a new shelter takes time and resources. Along the way, we are grateful to work with partners who support this journey through charity sales and fundraising activities.

If your organisation would like to walk alongside SAA during the Animal Big Move, we would love to hear from you.
