The walkathon is our annual charity event, kick starting every New Year. Money raised is used for the running of our society, in aid of helping more strays and abandoned/abused animals. This year celebrated our 7th walkathon, and the theme was "Miles for hope, miles for smiles". Animals seldom give up on a task. Through their dedicated spirit, we would like to encourage us humans, who are meeting disappointments day after day.

This year's walkathon, like so many before, were well subscribed, and attended by many dog lovers & their pets. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for all who participated.

Apart from the dogs that came with their owners, SAA trained 21 dogs (courtesy of Mac-sir and Sunny-sir, our volunteer dog trainers) for those who did not have dogs, but would like to participate with a dog. We were honoured to have the support of Miss Jessica Hsuen, Hoyan Mok, Miss Elena Kong, and Miss Kearen Pang to be our special guests for the event.

We would like to thank all who participated in the walkathon, and all those who have been supporting us so avidly throughout the years. In 201 0 , SAA was successful in bidding for HK$300,000 through the "Love ideas HK" charity fund. The money would be used as medical funding, providing for those responsible pet owners, who may not be able to afford veterinary fees for their pets. The fund also caters for those volunteers who are "looking after" stray animals.

Our target for 2011 is to improve the condition of our kennel. There are well over 300 dogs in SAA; improving their living conditions is of paramount concern, so they can live out the rest of their lives in comfort.

We will be continuing our education program for the general public, on various aspects of animal care. We will be running more talks & seminars to promote animal welfare. It is our belief that through understanding animals (behaviour & welfare), the rate of abandonment will decrease.

We have recently reached an initial agreement with the AFCD on the issue of "Trap, neuter, release". We will be releasing the details later on our web site.

Last but not least, we are in urgent need of volunteers from all professions. For example IT, marketing, graphic design, short film production, etc; in order to help SAA to promote our message of "respect all life, love animals". If you are interested, please contact us. We need your support ! We would like to take this opportunity to thanks all those who have helped in our walkathon : those who participated with their dogs, those who help in organisation, etc. Hope to see you all again next year !
